Review of NYX Palettes: contour, blush, illuminators

Hey all, I hope everyone is having a great start to their Spring. I thought I would compile all of my new NYX palettes into one review. I purchased these palettes from Ulta a few days ago. If you are a member of Ulta rewards, I’m sure you received an e-mail about their NYX buy two get one free deal. There is also a coupon code for $3.50 off which is 503456. All three of my palettes combined were $40, paying a little over $13 a palette, which is a great value! When you consider all of the colors included in each palette, I paid under $2.00 for each color.

If you do decide to use this deal, be sure to get the most out of your money by getting a free product that is the same price as the two you’re buying. Ulta will take off the product that is the cheapest of the 3.

I have to say I’m pretty happy with all three palettes. There is a wide range of colors in each, and I think the choices go great with my skin tone (medium-tan).

NYX Sweet Cheeks Blush Palette $20

I would highly recommend this palette! It comes with eight blushes, with baby pink, peachy, coral, and nude, tones. There is a variety of blushes to choose from, and this is a great palette to have, especially if you’re just starting to use make-up.

There are two blushes with shimmer and the other six are matte. The palette does lack red blush, but I don’t wear red blush anyway. Overall, each blush is around $2.50, and for the quality it’s a steal! The colors are very unique and creative, I love the fact that I do not have anything like these colors already.

The consistency is creamy, and very pigmented.  It’s easy to blend on top of other make-up, and does not have fall out. I really love the blushes in this palette, even more than my Tarte Amazonian Clay blushes! I would say the quality is comparable.

As for the packaging, it’s nothing special, there is no mirror and it’s simply plastic. The colors are simple and basic. I don’t have any complaints, and I haven’t dropped it to be able to tell how sturdy the packaging is. I care more about the quality of the product itself rather than the packaging, so I am able to look past it.

NYX Stroke of Genius Illuminating Palette $20

Another great palette to have, it comes with seven highlighters for $20 which averages out to around $2.90 a highlighter (I really don’t want to do exact math right now). I believe for the price you definitely get a great value. The palette has a wide range of colors, including a peach toned highlighter, an icy blue toned highlighter, gold highlighter, and subtle pink highlighters.

Although these are not my favorite highlighters, they are still good quality for the price. If you like a more subtle highlighter, you’ll love this palette. I wouldn’t say the quality of the highlighters are super pigmented with great color payoff. Overall, maybe two of the highlighters give an extreme illuminating glowing look, with which some people may not like. Like the Sweet Cheeks palette, the formula used is good, it is creamy, and easy to blend.

My favorite highlighters in this palette are the second, third, and sixth highlighters above. I love the icy blue toned highlighter because I have yet to see this shade with any other brand.

The packaging of this product is the same as the Sweet Cheeks Blush Palette.

NYX Highlight & Contour Pro Palette $25

Although I do have some contour products, this is the first contour PALETTE I’ve purchased! I’m very happy with the colors as they go perfect with my skin tone. The palette comes with four highlighters that go above the cheek bones, and four contour colors that are applied below the cheek bones.

The colors do not show up as dark as they look in their pans. As you can see on the swatches, the colors are a lot more subtle than they appear in the palette. This is a good thing, because I was afraid that the contour colors would be too dark, but luckily they are very easy to blend. This palette makes it easy to contour, and gives different color options for various skin tones.

Like the other palettes, the consistency is slightly creamy and the pigmentation of the contour is average (which I think is ok for contour). The highlighters have really great pigmentation, and definitely give an intense illumination.

The packaging is the same as the above palettes.

Overall, I love all three of the palettes, and I’ll definitely stick with NYX as my favorite drug store make-up brand. Luckily, NYX doesn’t test on animals which is great. Out of the three, my favorite palette is probably the Sweet Cheeks Blush Palette, but I’m also addicted to blush.

That is all for now, keep checking back for my mega Sephora & Ulta Haul which I will be posting very soon!
